[At the entrance to Kasugayama
High School.]
MAYA: I thought it was kinda
crowded, but turns out they're preparing for a school festival. Looks like
things are going to get lively.
EIKICHI: Yeah...it's a good
cover. He can keep to himself and make everyone think that he's working
hard for the school festival. Asshole. I bet he's in the student council
room on the second floor. We'll just have to put the boot in. C'mon!
[Tatsuya nods.]
[All the students are excited
by Kasu High's upcoming Masquerade ball; it’s to be the social event of
the year--the place to get yourself a hot Kasu High boyfriend, and you
can't go in without a mask. The students in the school are excited about
their new-found popularity and the chance to get girlfriends. Some also
talk about their dreams--the sky’s the limit and they don’t know where
to begin. Finally, a lot of students are upset that Eikichi resigned, and
beg him to come back--they claim school will fall apart without him. Eikichi
tells them to be strong.]
[The characters themselves
talk about their dreams, and they wonder what scheme Yasuo is up to next.
There are some students
posted outside the classrooms, taking care of exhibits. They're fun to
talk to. On the first floor there's a cafe that forces one of the students
to cross-dress in a maid's skirt. At first he's angry about it, but by
the end he and the guy working with him decide to do this kind of thing
more often. In the walkway to the gym, there's a nurse who will heal you
if you're wounded. Throughout the school there are several Shadow People.]
[3-1]
EIKICHI: Hey, wasn't there
a transfer student in this class? What happened to him?
STUDENT: Transfer student?
Oh, you mean him. He hasn't been coming to classes lately. Maybe he's in
the hospital? Who knows?
EIKICHI: I see...
MAYA: What's wrong, Eikichi-kun?
EIKICHI: N, nothing... it's
probably me.
[Student Council Room]
HONORABLE STUDENT COUNCIL
MEMBER: Michel, thank god you're okay! If anything happened to you, the
school would be finished!
EIKICHI: What's with the
change of heart? Aren't you guys Yasuo's right hand? Haven’t you always
hated me?
HONORABLE STUDENT COUNCIL
MEMBER: What gave you that idea? The truth is, the president's selfishness
has always caused problems.
POLITE STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBER:
If you take the opportunity to strike at him now, this student council
will support you, and the school will become more peaceful.
HONORABLE STUDENT COUNCIL
MEMBER: He was scared of you, so he went to hide somewhere in the school.
Find him, and beat the snot out of him for us!
EIKICHI: Okay, okay. Geez,
maybe I’m not the only one Yasuo’s hiding from.
[Talk to people]
HONORABLE STUDENT COUNCIL
MEMBER: He's lying low from the student council. He's hiding in a room
underground, we're sure of it! Please punish that monster! I can't bear
to see the tears of our fellow students any longer!
GOOD MANNERED STUDENT COUNCIL
MEMBER: Michel-san, we ask this of you: don't hold back when you find the
student council president--let him feel the full force of your fist of
justice!
MATURE STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBER:
I support the student council president. He made this school into a better
place.
EIKICHI: I don't get it...these
guys all of a sudden switched over to my side. Did even the student council
hate Yasuo's guts?
LISA: Aren't student council
presidents elected? He's gotta have some popularity in Kasu Hi--Kasugayama
High School.
MAYA: There seems to be
conflicting opinions on the student council president; what does it mean?
Are they lying?
YUKINO: "This week's goal:
five masks per person per day"…what is this?
[Outside the Kasu High
Bomb Shelter]
[They look around fruitlessly
for the student council president. Lisa looks at the door leading into
the bomb shelter.]
LISA: Hey, do you think
he could be in there?
PRESIDENT'S VOICE: Leave
me alone!
[Eikichi goes over to the
door, his fist raised.]
PRESIDENT'S VOICE: I was
wrong... I swear I'll stop, so please, forgive me!
EIKICHI: Forgive you? I've
got a whole ton of things to ask you! There's no fucking way I'm going
to let you get off so easily!
LISA: We wanna hear all
about the Emblem Curse!
[Lisa and Eikichi run into
the bomb shelter.]
MAYA: Wait!
[The door closes on Maya's
face.]
YUKINO: Damnit, why do they
always act before thinking? We can't let them go off by themselves--c'mon,
Suou.
[Tatsuya nods, and they
walk in. The screen fades out.]
Be Vewy Vewy
Quiet!
We're Hunting
Yasuo!
In the Kasu High
Bomb Shelter
|
[It's pitch-black.]
EIKICHI: Yasuo! Where are
you? Come out! Ouch! Look at what you made me do!
MAYA: Wait a second, Eikichi-kun.
I'll light things up. Let's see, where's my Maglight?
[Maya turns on a flashlight,
revealing a room with dirt walls. Eikichi is on the floor.]
MAYA: Thanks! So you always
carry this with you, Tatsuya-kun? But from here on in, let's think of these
things faster, okay?
[Yasuo speaks through a
transceiver left in the room.]
YASUO: Hee hee hee hee!
Caught you!
YUKINO: A transceiver? You
rat-bastard!
YASUO: There's a rumor that
the exit to the bomb shelter is impossible to find--once you go in, you
can't get out! Hee hee hee hee!
EIKICHI: Shut the fuck up!
What are you planning?
YASUO: I've got dreams for
this school. It's perfect for a genius of my caliber. But before that,
I've got to get rid of the misfits.
EIKICHI: What did
you say?
YASUO: I used Sugimoto for
that purpose. I had him spread the rumor that "the Head is stronger than
the Captain," but that backfired.
LISA: Keh he! Come
out and fight!
YASUO: No, I don't think
so. A few rotten apples can spoil the whole barrel. Hee hee hee hee! However, if the ladies could be
so kind as to feature me in their story, and if Lisa-san became my girlfriend,
I'd make an exception.
MAYA: Sorry, but we've already
decided the next edition's feature is "The Captain versus the Legendary
End-of-the-Century Lone Wolf."
[Eikichi pulls out a mirror
and begins to primp himself.]
YUKINO: Besides, if we took
photos of the transceiver, it wouldn't make for a good story, and the sponsors
would pull their support.
LISA: Hoh lin, I
feel sorry for you! You won't be able to date anywhere but in the Electric
City [1].
YASUO: Oooooooh!
Then, die, die in that ditch! Ha, ha, ahahahaha!
[Eikichi knocks the receiver
down.]
EIKICHI: Take that, you
prick!
YUKINO: Stop it, Eikichi!
What are you doing?
LISA: Yeah! You broke our
only link to the outside! Now what do we do?
EIKICHI: Noooo! B-but...
MAYA: Well, what's done
is done! In times like these, let's think positively! [2]
Let's find the exit!
[Talk to the characters]
EIKICHI: There's that rumor
that
the exit is impossible to find... I'm sorry, because if I...
MAYA: No worries! If we
got in, we can get out. I don't want to get lost, so let's mark our path.
YUKINO: We came in this
door--I think.
LISA: Hey, didn't we come
in through here? I'm not real sure, though...
[1] "You
won't be able to date anywhere but in the Electric City." This is a low
blow. ‘The Electric City’ refers to Akihabara, a region in Tokyo that consists
entirely of electronics, arcades, manga and anime stores, and about fifty
billion otaku. It's a fun place, but people who hang out there are deemed
nerds. So Lisa manages to make a jab at Yasuo by calling him a nerd.
[2] "In
times like these, let's think positively!" Maya uses Engrish here: "Let's
positive thinking!" It doesn't make for good grammar, but I think it fits
her much better. But for the sake of a good translation, out goes the Engrish.
[After walking through
the bomb shelter, you come to a Small Room.]
EIKICHI: There are doors,
but thanks to the rumor, we can't find the exit.
MAYA: The compass has gone
off-kilter, and we don't have a firm sense of direction... if there wasn't
light, we'd be really lost.
YUKINO: There's a trickle
of water; it seems drinkable.
LISA: Aiya! This
is drinkable? Fan ah, I won't drink it!
[You walk through the
bomb shelter some more, and come to a Small Room.]
EIKICHI: This room looks
like the first one, but that's just me, right? A, ahahahah...
MAYA: It's the same room
as last time--look, there are the marks I left on the wall! Well, if we've
come back to the starting point, it means we can begin all over again!
Let's go!
LISA: Aiya...don't
you think Maya's gone desperate?
YUKINO: While we were walking
around, was there anything that could have been an exit? We'll have to
look again.
[After more walking around,
you come to... a Small Room.]
EIKICHI: No! We came back?
There's no exit!
MAYA: The exit is impossible
to find. Impossible to find. Impossible to find... hm.
LISA: Hoh sang-ah...
Tatsuya, I'm thirsty. I don't wanna drink this filth.
YUKINO: I'm telling you,
it's okay. The insects are drinking it, so it's gotta be okay.
[After walking around
once again, you come back to the Small Room.]
MAYA: We came back again;
we're walking in circles. But we can do it! I won't be discouraged over
a small thing like this. We'll get out!
YUKINO: Maya-san, don't
grit your teeth while you're smiling [3].
EIKICHI: [sigh] If I die
in a ditch like this, I'll be too ashamed to face my fans.
LISA: Argh, this is so frustrating!
If we get out of here, I'm kicking Yasuo's ass!
[3] "Don’t
grit your teeth while you're smiling." The expression actually was: "stop
laughing as your veins bulge." In Japan, when you're angry, your veins
bulge out, especially on your face. So Maya was trying to cover her frustration
with optimism.
[Once again...]
YUKINO: If we give up we'll
make it too easy on Yasuo, but our Personae can't break through rock this
thick.
EIKICHI: There's this rumor
about how the only guy that ever got out of here had a mirror with him.
But there's no way out of here. We're finished.
MAYA: A mirror, a mirror...
a rumor about an exit that can't be found, and a mirror...
LISA: Yuck! I can't drink
this! I'll die!
[Again they come back
to the Small Room.]
LISA: Hoh sang-ah...
I'm exhausted. There's no exit, is there?
MAYA: Lisa, would you happen
to have a mirror on you? Eikichi said something about there being a rumor
about someone getting out of here with a mirror.
LISA: Sorry-ah, no,
I don't have mine with me. I usually leave it in my bag.
EIKICHI: Oh, no. I can't
believe that in a group of three ladies, not one of them has a mirror.
[He pulls out a mirror.]
EIKICHI: I'm so beautiful...
LISA: You idiot, why didn't
you tell us earlier? It's not going to help any if you keep staring at
yourself!
[They have a mini-spat,
and in the process drop the mirror.]
EIKICHI and LISA: Aaaaaaaaaaaah!
LISA: Aiya... now
what do we do? You should have been more careful!
EIKICHI: It was your fault!
Pay back the damages! A million yen; one million yen! [4]
YUKINO: Both of you, shut
up! Because of you, we've lost our only clue out of here!
EIKICHI and LISA: We're
screwed...
[They collapse into slumped
sitting positions. Tatsuya is also sitting down.]
MAYA: Let's think positively!
Once you give up, you've lost the battle! There's got to be a way out of
here! Think!
[Tatsuya stands up.]
YUKINO: Maya-san, we're
all exhausted. Let's get some rest and cool our heads off. We can take
turns keeping watch.
[Maya nods. The screen fades
out.]
[4] "A million
yen, one million yen!" Approximately $10,000. I'm sure it was a lovely
mirror, but it probably didn't cost that much, Eikichi darling.
[Time has passed. Tatsuya
is awake, leaning on his knees. Maya walks over to Tatsuya.]
MAYA: Tatsuya-kun...I'm a
bit early, but do you want to switch? I can't sleep. Do you mind if I sit
next to you?
[He nods his consent. Maya
sits next to him.]
MAYA: Do you think we can
get out of here? Oh, sorry! Positive thinking!
[Maya pulls out a key chain
with a once pink-and-white bunny with a heart on its stomach.]
MAYA: If you cry, the bunny
will laugh at you! Look, hop, hop!
[Tatsuya smiles.]
TATSUYA: ...
MAYA: That's the first time
I've seen you smile--you look great!
[Tatsuya blushes.]
TATSUYA: ...
MAYA: This rabbit is my
good-luck charm. When I'm having a hard time or I'm lost, it keeps my spirits
in check. At times like these... things have really gotten out of hand.
Rumors are becoming reality, genuine monsters are popping up... but there
have been good things, too. I got to meet you and the others... it means
so much being with you guys! It's like I'm a kid again.
MAYA: I can't think that
Joker is a bad person... he's like a child crying during a nightmare. It's
like with you guys--you fight at that the drop of the hat, but my Persona
tells me you're good kids.
[Tatsuya pulls out his lighter.]
MAYA: That's your good luck
charm, isn't it? There's a saying on it... "The most important things can't
be seen with the eyes." Sometimes I think all of reality is just a dream;
that I've forgotten something essential, and that I haven't woken up yet.
Maybe... the Joker is the same...
TATSUYA: ...
MAYA: Oh, sorry! I've been
babbling. Go on--I'll take care of things. Go get some sleep. Good night,
Tatsuya-kun. Pleasant dreams.
[Tatsuya walks off, and
the screen fades.]
[The next scene takes place
in front of a bridal shop, with two young boys talking.]
YOUNG BOY: Hey, Tatsuya,
do we really look alike?
[Tatsuya nods his head.]
YOUNG BOY: I guess you're
right, but I don't mind! I know!
[He pulls out a lighter.]
YOUNG BOY: My dad gave me
this treasure... I'll give it to you.
[Tatsuya tries to refuse
it.]
YOUNG BOY: It's okay! 'Cause
I'm you, and you're me! It's not like it's not with me anymore. I still
have it.
[Tatsuya offers him a watch.]
YOUNG BOY: This... it's
a treasure from your dad! I can't take it!
Tatsuya:...
YOUNG BOY: Okay. I get it.
I'll take good care of it, I promise!
[The young boy takes the
watch and laughs.]
YOUNG BOY: Ahahahah! I'm
so happy! No matter what happens, I'll keep my promise. Forever and ever
and ever!
[Tatsuya nods.]
[Across the street a very
drunk young man comes out of a pub. He wears glasses, has short dark hair,
wears a blue collar shirt with a red tie, and has a wide smile.]
DRUNK YOUNG MAN: See ya,
bartender! I'll be back. Yeah, I promise.
[He staggers a bit.]
DRUNK YOUNG MAN: Huh? Kids
shouldn't be out this late. If you do that, you won't grow up into good
adults.
[He takes a few steps towards
the windowpane of the bridal store, and the two boys take a step back.]
DRUNK YOUNG MAN: Nope, I'm
not drunk! Kaoru-kun, this is the face of a man who catches his dreams.
Well, time to go home. You should head back too--go on, go on.
[He staggers a few steps
away. The boys back off some more, but don't go home. The drunken young
man turns to face them again.]
DRUNK YOUNG MAN: Maybe I
should arrest you two.
[He laughs and staggers
away.]
YOUNG BOY: Hey, Tatsuya.
Didja know? They say that grown-ups drink to forget their dreams... I don't
wanna become like that...
[The screen fades out, then
back into reality. Tatsuya's head has ended up in Lisa's lap. Lisa plays
with his hair and laughs.]
LISA: Hoh ai di, Tatsuya
is so cute when he sleeps!
[Tatsuya stands up, and
looks away. Lisa and Maya laugh.]
YUKINO: All right. Looks
like everyone's rested up, so let's start thinking of a solution.
MAYA: Up until now we've
been too stuck on the idea of there being no exit. "The most important
things can't be seen with the eyes," right, Tatsuya-kun?
[Tatsuya pulls out his lighter,
nods, and smiles.]
TATSUYA: ...
[Maya laughs. Lisa looks
at them a bit bewildered, and then gets pissed off.]
LISA: What? What's this
private joke crap?
MAYA: The answer to our
problem is in a blind spot. I'm sure we can find a loophole in the rumor
about the mirror. So, let's review our data and find a way out!
[Everyone nods.]
MAYA: It is rumored that
once you get in the bomb shelter, you can't get out. Why is that?
| Why is that? |
| - Because the
exit is impossible to find. |
MAYA: Right! According to
the rumor, the reason we can't get out is because we can't find the exit!
Next. Has there ever been anyone who got out? |
| - Because there's no exit. |
MAYA: Okay. Thank you! BOOO!
You missed big time. Let's try that one again! |
| Has there
ever been anyone who got out? |
| - Nobody, never. |
MAYA: Okay. Thank you! BOOO!
You missed big time. Let's try that one again! |
| - Only one. |
MAYA: Bingo! Even though
the rumor says the exit is impossible to find, there's another one that
says one person managed to get out. How did they get out? With a tool they
had on them. What was it? |
| What was
it? |
| - A compass. |
MAYA: Okay. Thank you! BOOO!
You missed big time. Let's try that one again! |
| - A mirror. |
MAYA: Bingo! "Because you
can't find the exit," and, "One person left with a mirror" are the rumors.
Here's the problem--we don't have a mirror. But even more importantly,
how was the mirror used? A mirror is something that reflects things, right?
When you look into a mirror, what's reflected? |
| What's reflected? |
| - Things other
than yourself. |
MAYA: Yes! That's it exactly!
A mirror reflects things other than yourself. Think of cars and bikes!
Now, what does it mean to see things besides yourself? |
| - Yourself only. |
MAYA: Okay. Thank you! BOOO!
You missed big time. Let's try that one again! |
| What does
it mean to see things besides yourself? |
| - You see things
second-hand. |
MAYA: Bingo! That's right,
Tatsuya-kun! That's why it's a mirror! The guy who got out of here probably
did it accidentally--but he found the exit by reflecting it in a mirror! |
| - You can look up skirts. |
MAYA: Okay. Thank you! BOOO!
You missed big time. Let's try that one again! |
YUKINO: Of course! If you
say the exit is impossible to find, it means that there is one!
MAYA: Yep, impossible to
find does not equal nonexistent. We fooled ourselves into thinking that.
EIKICHI: Haaa! That's what
I thought from the very beginning!
LISA: But without a mirror,
we can't see things second-hand, so we're still screwed. If we can't look,
we can't get out.
YUKINO: Oh, I get it! It's
time we use this!
[Yukino pulls out her camera.]
MAYA: Yep! With Yukki's
digital camera, we find the exit by taking photos.
[Yukino snaps away.]
YUKINO: There! I caught
it! It's there!
MAYA: We defeated the rumor!
Now that there's no reason to linger, let's get out.
[She laughs, and they leave.]

More Kasugayama
High Excitement
|
[If you go around the school,
the characters themselves are fuming at how they were tricked, and what
a bastard that Yasuo is. It's kinda cute to see Lisa try to heap the blame
(of who ran into the shelter recklessly) onto Eikichi, and Eikichi trying
to make Lisa accept some of the blame. The students who had previously
sworn that Yasuo was in the bomb shelter apologize, saying that for some
reason they didn't understand, they couldn't disobey him.]
[Gym]
[The masquerade is in full
swing, complete with disco lights, students from various schools, and funky
music. Maya is wearing a mask.]
MAYA: Wow! What a wild party!
This atmosphere isn't very school-festivalish at all.
[Except that the disco lights
aren't lights at all--someone is sucking blue energy from the dancers,
including Maya. The gang freaks out, and Tatsuya removes Maya's mask.]
MAYA: What's wrong, Tatsuya-kun?
Is something wrong with the mask?
EIKICHI: Yasuo, what the
fuck are you doing? Isn't that the same skull the Joker had?!
[Everyone is shocked at
that, but Eikichi is right--the figure sucking up the energy is a Kasu
High student holding a blue skull.]
YASUO: Huh? T-that's enough.
S-stop! Stop at once!
LISA: We've gotta stop him!
At this rate, everyone'll become Shadow People!
[They walk towards the stage,
but Yukino feels a strong resonance. Anna is watching from a high platform.]
ANNA: Idiots.
YUKINO: Anna? It's dangerous;
quick, run!
ANNA: I know.
[She walks away.]
EIKICHI: Yasuo! What are
you doing? Stop the skull!
[Yasuo flees the scene.]
[Talk to the characters in
the gym]
EIKICHI: Turning everybody
in school into Shadow People...what's he thinking?! I'm not gonna put up
with his crap anymore!
LISA: I can't say for sure,
but maybe the student president had a skull with him, just like Eikichi
said?
YUKINO: What's Anna doing
here? And that feeling...
MAYA: Thanks, Tatsuya-kun!
If you hadn't taken off my mask, by now I'd be one of them!
[If you talk to the other
students there, you get various responses. Those that have been turned
into Shadow People talk about how they wanted to pick up a girl/boyfriend
at the dance, but they don't care anymore. If you talk to the healthy students,
some of them wonder what happened to their dancing partner and the fewer
number of people in the gym.]
[Walkway to the Gym]
YUKINO: Why was she here?
I don't think it was to dance. She couldn't be...
MAYA: Running off in a panic
like that... he was acting strangely. Maybe because he saw us?
LISA: The student president
was holding the same glittering skull as the Joker! But the color may be
different...
EIKICHI: Yasuo's gotta still
be in the school. Let's go after him, Suou!
[If you talk to the students
there, one seems to have been affected by the energy-absorption process--he
can't quite remember what he's doing there. Another student wonders what
that the pretty shiny thing is the student president had been holding,
and the third student says that the student president just ran through--did
something happen?]
[Back inside the school,
only a handful of the conversations have changed. Most of them run along
the lines of how the school president had just run through/up the stairs,
and that he looked as though we were in a hurry. The fans of the class
doing the cafe will be happy to hear that both students, despite the lack
of popularity of the cafe, have taken a liking to cross-dressing and have
planned on doing so next year.]
[Third Floor Hallway]
EIKICHI: Yasuo is close!
Even my Persona's pissed off!
EIKICHI: Yasuo, are you ready--
[Yasuo is not there. A transceiver
is in his place. The gang shakes their heads sadly.]
YASUO’S VOICE: Hee hee
hee... you came!
EIKICHI: You asshole! Why
did you turn everyone into Shadow People?
YASUO’S VOICE: Don't yell
at me like that! I'm just a mere servant of this school, trying to make
things better.
EIKICHI: Servant?
[Tatsuya notices Yasuo on
the other edge of the roof. His back is turned to them all.]
YASUO’S VOICE: Kasugayama
used to be the lowest of the low, but look at it now!
[Everyone walks up to Yasuo.
Yasuo doesn't notice.]
YASUO: Our popularity has
rocketed! We, once labeled 'Kasu High,' are being fawned over by girls!
And this is all thanks to the student council president-namely, me!
[Eikichi punches Yasuo good
and hard.]
YASUO: I'm impressed that
not only did you find me, but that you got out of the bomb shelter in the
first place.
LISA: Are you completely
dense?
YASUO: D-dense? How can
someone of your caliber begin to understand my true value! Hmph. No matter
what you say, the fact remains that I will be famous for making
this school festival a success. I have a proposal for you, Mishina-kun.
I mean to continue pushing this school to higher heights. I want you to
help out by taking care of the other side of things. If we shake hands
on this and clean up both the front and the back, the school will flourish!
Isn't it perfect?
[Yasuo laughs mildly maniacally.]
EIKICHI: Shut up! Who's
gonna go along with your crazy scheme? If you can do that, turn everybody
back to normal!
YASUO: You don't know anything!
Be careful what you say. Besides, it's no use threatening me--now even
I have no clue how to turn everybody back.
MAYA: In that case, hand
over the skull. We'll see what we can do.
YASUO: I-I can't! If I do
that, Lady-sama will kill me!
[Eikichi pulls out his gun.]
EIKICHI: If you don't give
it to us, we'll just have to take it!
YASUO: I do so hate using
violence... but you leave me no choice. I'll kill anyone who stands in
my way! Hee, hee hee, hee hee hee hee!
[Boss battle begins]
YASUO: I won't let anyone
take away my dreams! I won't!
EIKICHI: I'll change your
mind!
[After you win, Yasuo is
thoroughly beaten up and Tatsuya has the skull.]
LISA: I knew it! The color's
different, but it's the same as the skull Joker had.
EIKICHI: Hey, Yasuo!
YASUO: No! I'm sorry! No
more! Don't hurt me!
EIKICHI: Are you a part
of the Joker's gang? Why is the Joker collecting people's dreaming hearts?
YASUO: Huh? Don't ask me,
I don't know. All I know is that everyone in the Masquerade has to hand
over the dream energy they collect to an Executive.
EIKICHI AND LISA: The Masquerade?
EIKICHI: That's the name
of the game the kids in my dreams play!
LISA: ?!
MAYA: The Executive here
is Lady Scorpio, isn't it?
YASUO: I thought by collecting
energy from my successful school festival I could raise my rank...I'm done
for!
YUKINO: Stealing other people's
ability to dream--when you're climbing the ladder to success there's no
room for sympathy!
YASUO: I never meant to
turn them into Shadow People! If there hadn't been anybody challenging
me for my position I would have been happy! Even so, I couldn't control
the Crystal Skull…
???: Someone like you, a
non-Executive, wouldn't have the ability to control the Crystal Skull.
YUKINO: It's Anna?
[A masked figure with a
blue scarf materializes on the roof.]
LADY SCORPIO: Yukino Mayuzumi?
You're still here?
YUKINO: It is you! Why are
you--
[Lady Scorpio uses a whip
to take the Crystal Skull from Tatsuya.]
LADY SCORPIO: Only those
bearing the astrological signs of the Grand Cross can control this skull.
What, is this all you collected?
[Everyone senses a new resonance.]
???: Of course. He knows
how pedestrian the average man's energy is. That's why he's granting dreams
to everyone.
MAYA: Ah?
[Maya starts to shiver.
Yasuo is killed in a burst of flame.]
MAYA: Noooo!
[She falls to her knees.
In a burst of fire a new figure, this one with a mask and red scarf, appears
on the roof.]
???: Hyaaaa-hahahahahhaaaa!
Burn, burn, buuuurn!
EIKICHI: Who are you?!
KING LEO: My name is King
Leo! I'm the head of the four Executives of the Masquerade, bearing the
astrological sign Leo.
(King
Leo: second only to Joker, he is an Executive of the Masquerade. For some
reason he bears a deep grudge towards Maya. He is a man who hears voices
in his head. [5])
KING LEO: For a worm like
you to reveal the secrets of the Masquerade and interrupt the Shadow Feast
halfway through is unforgivable! You'll pay for your crimes with death!
[He disappears for a split-second
and materializes next to Lady Scorpio.]
KING LEO: You too, Lady
Scorpio. What do you think you’re doing, revealing your identity? You left
the ball early and interrupted the Shadow Feast halfway through... if you
had seen the results of the Oracle of Maiya you would easily receive the
same punishment.
LADY SCORPIO: Yukino's my
prey. Don't lay a finger on her.
KING LEO: All right. But
go wrap things up.
YUKINO: Anna, wait!
[Anna vanishes in a blue
swirl.]
KING LEO: You're aligned
with ill-fated stars. [6] Soon, I'll send you and the
witch to my version of Hell--just like that worm.
TATSUYA AND MAYA: ?!
KING LEO: No matter how
much you run, you can't escape fate!
[With a big flourishing
flame he disappears, laughing.]
MAYA: I'm scared! Save me,
Daddy!
[The scene fades out for
a moment.]
EIKICHI: You mean to tell
us that this King Leo guy has been targeting you for years?
MAYA: My Persona told me;
it's definitely him!
LISA: An arsonist... keh
he! He won't get away with it!
[Tatsuya flicks his lighter
and walks towards Maya.]
MAYA: Don't worry about
me; I'm okay. We should be more concerned with planning our next step.
YUKINO: I'm worried about
what that king guy said to Anna--"go wrap things up." Let's go back to
the gym--I've got a bad feeling.
[5] "He is
a man who hears voices in his head." Leo actually is a denpa-boy, a Japanese
culture thing where a person receives electromagnetic waves.
[6] "You're
aligned with ill-fated stars." He says, "daikyouboshi yo" (‘supremely unlucky
star,’) and considering his obsession with the alignment of the stars,
I guess he means that their fates, astrologically, have taken a nasty turn,
and they're headed for a bad end.
[Gym]
[Everyone in the room has
completely turned into Shadow People.]
EIKICHI: Shit, we're too
late!
YUKINO: Anna! She's gone...
why did you do such a dumb thing?
LISA: Keh he! It's
too cruel! What is this Oracle of Maiya thing that’s made the Masquerade
go so far?
EIKICHI: Now that Yasuo's
dead, we don't have any leads.
MAYA: Guys, there are rumors
about the Shadows and Joker, right? Let's go back to the city and ask around.
I'm sure we'll find more clues!
[They nod, and walk out.
Only Yukino is left in the gym.]
YUKINO: I'm sure you have
a good reason for becoming an Executive, Anna. I'll save you... just like
Saeko-sensei saved me.
[Leave Kasu High. People
on the street are talking about the debut of a new idol group called MUSES,
composed of girls from Sevens. The group is managed by the leading name
in the business, Ginji Sasaki. One of the people on the street says that
he saw Lisa's silhouette on a poster. She says that she doesn't know anything
about it.]
[The people around the city
are talking about a bunch of new rumors, a lot of which are contradictory.
Some say the Masquerade turned out to be an evil organization, how the
real terrorists are a group of five youths, etc. Some people are ecstatic
with the attacks, a lot of people are scared, and so on. A lot of people
have begun to reveal themselves as being Masquerade members.]
[The Rumormongers have nothing
new to offer, but if you go to the Peace Diner a female Sevens student
is there. If you talk to her, she'll cackle and remind you she's a student
from your class, Fuyuko. She'll go on to tell you about a story of a cab
that stays still all day, but at night goes around the city running over
people. She'll ask you if you're scared, and if you pick "no," then she'll
protest and say it's true--she saw the haunted taxi at the Abandoned Factory.
If you spread that rumor, you can go meet the Cursed Taxi in the Abandoned
Factory. You can also tell her that you think she's scary.]
[Make sure you talk to Chikalin--she'll
tell you to go to Konan to see someone who tells fortunes.]
[KONAN]
[The Sad Woman near the beach
in Konan tells you that Ebisu Beach is named after a corpse that washed
up on shore who was called "Ebisu-sama".]
[Konan Police Station]
[If you go here, you'll
meet up with Katsuya Suou, Tatsuya's older brother. Note that Katsuya’s
last name will be different if you changed Tatsuya’s.]
KATSUYA: Tatsuya, it's rare
for you to come here. There's no way you've only come to visit me, your
older brother. What business do you have at the police station? Did something
happen?
(Katsuya
Suou: A detective at the Konan Police Station, and Tatsuya's older brother.
Has a sharp mind and strong body. A man of justice who despises criminals,
especially arsonists. He also worries a lot.)
[Tatsuya turns around and
flicks lighter.]
KATSUYA: Hm. Same as always.
Honestly, how long do you intend to disappoint our parents?
KATSUYA: Even now, I don't
think you'll ever understand myself or Father. But you won't gain anything
by just running away either.
KATSUYA: The Masquerade?
What's that? Don't try to fob such a dumb story off on me.
KATSUYA: All you ever do
is wander around aimlessly. Sometimes I think I can’t have any peace without
tying you to a tree or something like that. Why don't you grow up a little?
[Go to the Sumaru Gypsy.
(Second row, Middle store.) Talk to her.]
[Sumaru Gypsy]
???: This is where people
come who are lost in the labyrinth called Life. A place where a bit of
light
is shed on a dark future, pointing to the correct path to walk. I am the
keeper, the Sumaru Gypsy.
(Sumaru
Gypsy: With her husky voice, she is a fortune-teller thought to be a great
beauty. As part of her job, she is knowledgeable about rumors, and is called
a Rumormonger. There is also a rumor that at night, people have seen someone
who looks much like her from behind...)
GYPSY: It seems that this
is your first visit here. Are you also someone who has lost their way on
the path to the future? Or have you come to hear rumors of this ephemeral
world?
GYPSY: What? Masquerade?
The Masquerade? No, I've never heard of anything like that... is it the
name of some sort of organization?
GYPSY: If you want to know
about that, you should go ask a man in Honmaru Park. He knows more about
the earthly plane than I do.
GYPSY: But this story of
a mysterious organization called the Masquerade... interesting. I shall
have to take this information as new rumor material.
[Talk to her about rumors;
she'll give you the best ones for weapons and armor. Leave and go to Rengedai,
and enter Honmaru Park.] |
