VENGEFUL GHOSTS 怨霊 Onryou, or vengeful ghosts, are the spirits of people who died in the grip of a strong emotion, such as hatred or anger or fear. The grudge they bear as they die stays with them and turns them into ghosts that haunt the site of their death, attacking the living to pass on their anger and fear.
